Arrived at Ganges Harbour, Salt Spring Island. Tucked right into the little spit just South of the Salt Spring Island Sailing Club. I went into town and had lunch at the Oyster Catcher. Lamb burger and crispy fries. Very good. I hooked up with Tom when he got back from Victoria and we had a few laughs before he had to hit the sack. He’s working mornings all week.

Yesterday (Sunday) I enjoyed front row seats on the SISC Sunday race. I hadn’t planned on being there but after returning from my visit with Tom, and just before lights out, I noticed I was dragging badly. The wind had switched from the North and I was headed out past the spit and into the harbour.

I calmly started T2’s Super Powerful Yanmar Diesel power plant and, after untangling the anchor from what looked like 3/8” floating prawn line, I moved to the open, just off SISC. As it turns out, I’m just a 100 M from their start line. One asshole condescendingly asked If I knew where their start line was. After disposing of his body, I enjoyed a hot cup a’ Joe and watched the race. There were a dozen impressive yachts lining up.

After the race was underway I resumed exploring the harbour and some of the sub-culture that has grown up here over the past few years. Interesting to see certain residents row, paddle or motor between clusters of rafted up boats, sketchy looking floating homes and a few massive barges. As Tom puts it, ‘an eclectic assortment of vessels’.

Tom and I enjoyed dinner at the Oyster Catcher last night. Tom had pizza and I had an incredible Crispy Chicken, noodle salad with a side prawn skewer. It was delicious.
